South Carolina Hobby Barn

South Carolina Hobby Barn
Clemson, SC3,755 Sq. Ft.

Project Summary:

Located on a small farm near Memorial Stadium in Clemson, South Carolina, this hobby barn and home takes inspiration from several past projects to achieve its perfectly balanced design. Modified from our Oakridge 36′ Apartment Barn Kit, this 3,755 sq. ft. structure features a spacious 1,622 sq. ft. garage area on the first floor and a cozy 1,296 sq. ft. upstairs living quarters with a 299 sq. ft. covered deck.

On the main level, our client can utilize a multi-use space with an office, a mud room with laundry capabilities, a media room, and a two-car garage. To accommodate their workshopping needs, they chose to raise the height of the main level by 1′, incorporate 10′ x 10′ garage doors, and add two 144 sq. ft. shed roofs as covered patio space. Through a door in the garage, our client can enter the foyer with a half bathroom and L-shaped stairs leading to the upper level.

Upstairs, you’ll find an inviting, open-concept living space that resembles, in many ways, one of our most popular projects: the Gate Creek Garage Home. A large kitchen with an island, a great room with a double-sided fireplace, and a 299 sq. ft. deck create a warm and homey atmosphere. A bedroom off the kitchen provides multiple sleeping areas, with a built-in loft bed and a ladder leading up to it. On the opposite side of the home, you’ll find a master bedroom with a walk-in closet and fireplace. There’s also a generous full bathroom with a large walk-in shower and double sinks.

Using our Oakridge 36′ as a starting point for their project, our client decided to swap out a few standard features for something more aligned with their vision. In place of several base materials, this client instead opted for Woodtone RusticSeries board and batten siding for their exterior, Douglas fir tongue and groove upgrades on their patio and deck covers, an Andersen 400 series for their shower area, and an Andersen A Series patio door for their deck. Additionally, they added Trex decking, a 48″ x 48″ cedar cupola with windows, and 10′ x 10′ garage doors for easy and efficient vehicle storage.
