Project Summary:

Spanning nearly 25,000 square feet, this showstopping barn venue in Columbia, Illinois, serves as the new home of Old Monroe Distilling Co.—a family-owned, grain-to-glass distillery known for crafting spirits with character and substance. Situated on an 8th-generation family farm, this custom timber frame structure features three stories, each level packed with thoughtful amenities for distillery lovers, wedding parties, and weekend travelers seeking an all-in-one destination.

The main level opens to a striking 7,067 sq. ft. reception hall with soaring timber trusses, tongue-and-groove ceilings, and picture windows that flood the space with natural light. A dramatic central staircase leads to private bride’s and groom’s suites, both complete with restrooms and walk-out decks. Just outside the reception hall—fittingly dubbed the Bourbon Ballroom—guests will find a stylish cocktail lounge and tasting room, ideal for sampling Old Monroe’s signature spirits. One level below, a bunker-style speakeasy channels 1920s glamour, offering an intimate hideaway perfect for mingling or a quick escape from an impromptu toast.

Custom Features:

This client began with a custom timber frame package and expanded it with tongue-and-groove details that add warmth and richness throughout the grand reception hall and tasting areas. Drawing inspiration from standout wedding venues we’ve completed in the past, they incorporated massive timber trusses, glulam beams, and Douglas fir members for a look that’s both elegant and naturally timeless. With its three expansive levels, richly detailed interiors, and commanding footprint, this venue stands as one of our largest—and most impressive—builds to date.
