Project Summary:
Nestled among the forests and rolling hills of Anacortes, Washington, this one-of-a-kind 4,097-square-foot artist studio was designed to be as inspiring as the work created within it. Positioned to capture sweeping views of the surrounding landscape, the building blends rustic Northwest character with thoughtful craftsmanship, creating a space that feels both expansive and deeply connected to its natural setting.
The studio’s striking exterior features welcoming covered entries accented by handcrafted king post trusses, setting the tone for the impressive interior beyond. Inside, soaring vaulted ceilings and a dramatic window wall flood the space with natural light throughout the day, creating an ever-changing environment that enhances creativity and showcases artwork beautifully. Exposed heavy timber framing serves as both a structural and architectural centerpiece, bringing warmth, texture, and timeless character to the building.
Designed with flexibility in mind, the studio offers generous open workspaces, dedicated areas for fabrication and display, and a spacious second-story storage loft that maximizes functionality without sacrificing openness. A custom heavy timber staircase package anchors the interior, highlighting the craftsmanship and attention to detail found throughout the project.
