Montana Barn Home

Boulder, MT3,637 Sq. Ft.

Project Summary:

This stately barn-style home sits on a scenic hillside property in southwestern Montana. These clients started with an Oakridge 48′ apartment barn kit and extended the length to 52′ to better accommodate their three-bedroom floor plan. The main level is primarily a 1,572 sq. ft. heavy timber workshop with a 9′ x 12′ overhead door. There’s also a laundry/utility room, a powder room, and a foyer with stairs providing ground-floor access to the living quarters. A 12′ x 52′ shed roof provides additional covered storage for vehicles and equipment.

Upstairs, the living space revolves around a great room with vaulted ceilings and a modern kitchen that features stainless steel appliances, a gas range, a pantry, and an island with a raised bar. There are three bedrooms and two full bathrooms on this level, including the primary bedroom with a walk-in closet and a luxurious double shower. You’ll also find a private office and a linen closet. A massive 1,500+ sq. ft. deck wraps around two sides of the building, providing plenty of space for outdoor entertaining.

Custom Features:

This southwestern-style barn home deviates from our standard Oakridge in several ways, starting with its 1,500+ sq. ft. wrap-around deck that stretches across the east and south-facing sides of the building. Our client opted for Andersen 100 series windows and an Andersen 400 Series Frenchwood® hinged patio door with Sandtone trim to achieve their desired exterior appearance. We extended the length of this structure by about 4 feet to accommodate additional storage space in the garage and a third bedroom upstairs. Our clients also added a 36″ x 36″ standard cedar cupola with windows, our 3’6” x 6’8” flat 2-panel, 6 lite exterior grade door upgrade, and a standard 12′ heavy timber truss to their residential design.
