Cherry Valley Custom Cabin

Cherry Valley, NY2,290 Sq. Ft.

Project Summary:

Based on our Columbia 60′ Gable Barn Kit, this two-story cabin in Cherry Valley, New York, was tastefully customized to fit five bedrooms, an open-concept living space, and a shop with two garage bays. Our designers made several structural modifications to the original model, including extending the 12′ x 60′ shed roof to wrap around the back and left side of the structure, enclosing a 12′ x 24′ portion of the shed roof, and adding 24′ shed dormers for extra headroom in the upstairs bunks. Our client also decided to add a heavy timber upgrade to their design, with all posts and columns upgraded to 8″ x 8″ select structural Douglas fir. Additionally, we removed a set of columns in the garage area to make room for added storage.

The first floor features a 1,136 sq. ft. shop at the front of the cabin. A mudroom separates the shop from an open-concept living space in the back, where clients can take advantage of a contemporary kitchen with a custom island, a spacious dining room, and a cozy lounge area. Floor-to-ceiling reclaimed wood walls give the living space a traditional cabin-like appearance, with knotty wood cabinetry and Craftsman-style pendant lighting adding to this effect. A primary bedroom and a full bathroom opposite the lounge area round out the main level, while four bunk rooms with a shared full bathroom complete the second story.

Custom Features:

This modified Columbia 60′ features numerous custom details that make it look and feel like a traditional mountain cabin, including floor-to-ceiling reclaimed wood walls, designated bunk rooms, and exposed posts and beams. Of the many unique features on display in this cabin, one of the most astounding is our heavy timber upgrade, which replaces our standard 6″ x 6″ posts and columns with 8″ x 8″ select structural Douglas fir lumber. These extra-large heavy timbers add another layer of uniqueness to this interior while bolstering the structural integrity of the building. Other custom features in and outside this cabin include two 12′ mortise and tenon timber frame trusses in the front and back of the structure, a 4′ x 4′ faux hayloft door, a wrap-around shed roof, and 24′ shed dormers. Our clients also opted for select tight knot cedar board & batten siding in place of our standard tongue and groove offering.
