Durango Barn Style Home

Durango Barn-Style Home
Durango, CO2,702 Sq. Ft.

Project Summary:

If you’ve ever considered transforming our Columbia Gable Barn Kit into a beautiful barn-style home, here’s your sign to do so! This picture-perfect apartment barn in Durango, Colorado, is a highly personalized version of our Columbia 36′ Gable Barn Kit, complete with numerous show-stopping features that contribute to its idyllic appearance. We originally designed the main level to include a post and beam garage and workshop with two offices, a full bathroom, and a laundry room. Though the floor plan remains similar, our client ultimately decided to convert the first floor into an attractive and highly functional living space that they and their guests can utilize year-round.

Upstairs, you’ll find a modern one-bedroom home with an open-concept kitchen, dining, and living area that features an adorable wood stove and exposed heavy timbers. A powder room off the dining area connects with a spacious full bathroom with a stand-alone tub, his and hers sinks, a private shower, and a linen closet. Our client can access a cozy primary bedroom with a walk-in closet through the en suite bathroom or the hallway. Finally, a 155 sq. ft. deck provides the ideal environment for barbecues, entertaining, and enjoying the southwestern Colorado sunsets.

Custom Features:

This modified Columbia is a perfect example of what our clients can do with their chosen building models. This client decided to take our open-ended Columbia building model and turn it into a highly custom barn home that looks straight out of a magazine. The exterior features our signature cedar board and batten siding, which our client had stained to achieve a reclaimed, distressed appearance. With the help of our talented in-house designers, our client also added several upgrades to their design, including two enclosed shed roofs, a 36′ shed dormer for additional headroom, a drive-through garage bay on the first floor, and a 155 sq. ft. deck. Trapezoid windows, skylights, and atrium-style windows on the east-facing shed roof add to the distinct charm of this barn home’s exterior. Inside, a wood stove and our select-grade heavy timbers offer rustic appeal, while our client’s dreamy selections give this interior a unique boho vibe.
