Georgia Coast Home & Stables

St. Simons, GA2,361 Sq. Ft.

Project Summary:

This magnificent post and beam structure located on St. Simons, a historic island off the Georgia coast, combines our Columbia Gable Barn Kit and Oakridge Apartment Barn Kit to create a top-of-the-line equestrian facility and a modern three-bedroom home. The first floor features twelve standard horse stalls equipped with Classic Equine Legend Series sliding stall fronts, steel-framed Dutch doors leading to covered turnouts, removable stall partitions, and automatic waterers. There’s also a grooming stall, feed storage room, tack room, powder room, and office – everything our client needs to manage a self-sufficient equestrian facility!

Upstairs, you’ll find an open-concept kitchen, dining, and living area with exposed heavy timbers and vaulted ceilings. The dining area opens up to a 294 sq. ft. deck with an exterior staircase and an overhang framed with a custom heavy timber truss. A primary bedroom with a large en suite bathroom and walk-in closet, two additional bedrooms, another full bathroom, a walk-in pantry, and a laundry room round out the second-story living space. From their home, our client can also access a center aisle loft over the barn where skylights, a vented cupola, and a functional hayloft door create an enjoyable, rustic look-out.

Custom Features:

This post and beam structure boasts dozens of custom features in and outside the equestrian facility and home. For instance, the exterior is clad with Hardie® lap and board and batten siding in a striking blue color and features a whitish-cream belly band and window trim. The gable end of the Columbia includes a functional hayloft door and standard barn door below that match the trim while the Oakridge end features a 294 sq. ft. deck with our exterior staircase and heavy timber deck cover upgrades. A vented cupola and skylights above the Columbia and a windowed cupola above the Oakridge help enhance the ventilation and lighting inside the barn and home. Inside the stables, our fully-equipped horse stalls include Classic Equine equestrian equipment and horse-safe features like chew protection on exposed corners. Additionally, custom details like select-grade Douglas fir tongue and groove wall coverings, a decorative entry cover, and Andersen 100 Series gliding and single-hung windows contribute to the signature appearance of this structure. We also incorporated Dupont Tyvek® HomeWrap® as part of its design.
