White Salmon Barn Home

White Salmon, WA5,059 Sq. Ft.

Project Summary:

We designed this beautiful three-bedroom barn home for our clients in White Salmon, Washington — a scenic area located just a few miles from the mighty Columbia River Gorge. These clients started with an Oakridge 60′ Apartment Barn Kit and made several structural modifications to turn the main level into a heavy-duty garage and workshop. The first floor features a 1,998 sq. ft. garage with a row of posts removed to create a more open space and raised ceilings to accommodate a 12′ x 14′ overhead door for a large RV. There’s also an enclosed workshop space, an office, a full bathroom, and a mudroom with stairs providing ground-floor access to the living quarters. A 12′ x 60′ open shed roof provides additional covered storage.

Upstairs, a magnificent great room with vaulted ceilings and exposed heavy timbers acts as the centerpiece of this modern rustic home. The open-concept living space also includes a large kitchen with an island and pantry, a dining hall, and access to a 12′ x 24′ covered deck capped with a striking heavy timber truss. There are three bedrooms and three bathrooms on this level, including a primary bedroom with a walk-in closet, an additional bedroom with a private bathroom, and a larger bunk-style room with multiple beds.

Custom Features:

Located in White Salmon, Washington, this barn-style home is the epitome of a modern rustic abode. We adapted this design from our Oakridge 60′ Apartment Barn Kit to accommodate an RV garage and workshop on the ground floor and a gorgeous three-bedroom home on the second story. Our designers started by removing a row of interior columns and raising the sidewalls by 6′ on the first floor to create a wide-open space with room for an RV, a private workshop, an office, a full bathroom, and a mudroom. We also added a 12′ x 60′ open shed roof for covered storage space. Upstairs, our clients can enjoy numerous upgrades in and outside the home, including our stunning Douglas fir tongue and groove ceiling upgrade and an Andersen 400 Series Frenchwood® hinged patio door that leads to their covered cedar deck. The original deck was extended from 12′ x 12′ to 12′ x 24′, with our clients adding a deck cover with a handcrafted heavy timber truss to adorn the space.
