Astoria Cabin Kit & Garage

Astoria, OR1,044 Sq. Ft.

Project Summary:

These two buildings — a Rogue cabin kit and a Columbia 24′ barn kit — sit on a magnificent property south of Astoria, Oregon, with epic views of Saddle Mountain — the tallest peak in this part of the Oregon Coast Range. The 1,044 sq. ft. cabin consists of two bedrooms, two full bathrooms, a modern kitchen, and a stunning great room with soaring heavy timber ceilings. Modifications to the original building model include the addition of a storage loft over the kitchen, the relocation of the covered porch with upgraded 8″ x 8″ posts, and an Andersen 400 Series window package upgrade. This cabin also features an extensive heavy timber roof framing upgrade with beautiful select grade timbers and tongue and groove ceiling coverings.

Our designers minimally modified the adjacent Columbia 24′ barn kit to serve as an attractive post and beam car garage and storage barn. We replaced our standard sliding breezeway doors with overhead garage doors, removed our standard cupola, and added a window above the entrance to enhance the natural lighting inside the garage.

Custom Features:

Our team made numerous modifications to the Rogue cabin design to satisfy our client’s vision for the structure. For instance, we designed a covered porch on the right side of the cabin instead of having it wrap around both the front and west-facing sides. We also reconfigured the floor plan to include our client’s kitchen near the entrance instead of the rear and added a 12′ mezzanine loft above the kitchen space. Inside the main living space, our heavy timber roof upgrade stuns with mortise and tenon connections and tongue and groove ceiling material made from select grade Douglas fir — a unique detail that makes this cabin kit stand out. Additional modifications include an Andersen 400 Series window package upgrade and a 12′ gable dormer with a window above the covered porch. With the adjacent Columbia 24′ barn kit, we included 12′ x 9′ overhead garage doors in place of our standard breezeway doors, removed our standard cupola, and added a window above the entrance.
