Wyoming Stillwater Barn Home

Thayne, WY1,315 Sq. Ft.

Project Summary:

This Scandinavian-inspired barn home in Thayne, Wyoming, is the second Stillwater Barn Home Kit completed by DC Structures; and one of the first ADUs advertised on our site. We designed this structure with parallel chord roof trusses and appearance-grade glulam beams to create an expansive interior free of post obstructions. We also incorporated a magnificent window wall that offers gorgeous views of the surrounding landscape while bringing tons of natural light into the living space.

The first floor of this ADU includes an open-concept living, kitchen, and dining area, a half bathroom, and a primary bedroom with an en-suite bathroom and walk-in closet. Upstairs, a 355 sq. ft. loft area provides a cozy yet spacious entertainment space, which can also function as a second bedroom, office, or artist studio. Light wood cabinets, door and window frames, and furniture give this home a cohesive Nordic style that feels inviting and sophisticated from floor to ceiling. Outside, Woodtone ColorSelect™ siding and select-grade Douglas fir tongue and groove accents create a rich pop of color that distinguishes this structure from others in the area.

Custom Features:

This Stillwater barn home design boasts several custom features that stand out from more traditional structures in our portfolio, including Scandinavian-inspired design details, clear span ceilings, and massive window walls. Their inclusion creates a uniquely open and bright living space that looks and feels like a modern cabin in Norway without losing that signature DC style that our clients love. Although this structure is similar in many ways to our standard Stillwater, we made minimal modifications to the design to accommodate the needs and regional requirements of the client. These modifications include the addition of two shed roofs, an engineering upgrade, which increased the snow load capacity for the roof and shed roofs, and a crawl space. We also extended the structure by 4 feet.
